"Arc - it’s a student thing
Arc is the not-for-profit student organisation at the University of New South Wales (UNSW) in Australia. Our mission is to make UNSW student life more interesting, more fun, more personally rewarding, and ultimately more affordable. Arc ensures that University is more than just getting a degree.
One of the busiest times for Arc is during O-week at UNSW, when masses of new and returning students converge on campus to take part in a week-long program of events and activities before formal lessons begin. In 2011, Arc decided it would take advantage of Survey on the Spot’s rad mobile surveying capabilities with the aim of surveying students during one of the most hectic weeks at UNSW."
Problem:
UNSW needed to:
- Survey the attitudes of students across campus during one of the universities busiest times
- Engage with students and build rapport
- Make sense of any collected data so that any issues/suggestions/trends can be identified and addressed
How Survey On The Spot helped:
We created a brief survey using Survey on the Spot’s website. It was surprisingly simple to create different styles of questions (free response, multiple choice etc) and to set up the way questions would flow-on from different responses.
Once we’d finished, we downloaded it to an iPhone and we were set!
Results were available instantly on the website and at a click of a button, we could see the data analysed and presented in easy-to-read graphs. It couldn’t have been simpler!
As a result of using Survey on the Spot, the Student Facilitation Team at Arc were able to identify a number of new projects for future implementation to enhance student life at UNSW.
What we loved about Survey on the Spot:

- Ability to survey in-person, on the spot, without the use of pen and paper and with the ability to actually engage and build rapport with students
- No need for a statistician to interpret the results – there all available instantly in an easy to understand format
- Results can be exported to Excel
